Sweetness from raw honey, sting from fresh ginger and a wonderfully smokey flavor from all american bourbon with a garnish of burnt lemon. This is a cocktail tribute to bees...

The Burnt Bee

1 oz Bourbon

1 oz Tequila

1/4 cup Apple Juice

2 Tbsp Raw Honey

1 Tbsp Lemon Juice

1/4 inch knob of Ginger

Bunch of Ice

Garnish:

1 Lemon (quartered)

1-2 pieces of Candied Ginger

 

1. Slice a lemon into quarters and sear the cut sides in a non stick skillet until deeply browned and caramelized.  Set the lemons aside.

 2.  Add bourbon, tequila, honey, lemon juice, ginger, and ice into a cocktail shaker and shake to combine.

3. Serve over ice with 1 quarter of burnt lemon squeezed over the top and a few pieces of candied ginger. Enjoy responsibly ;)

Recipes are never rules!

Use your judgment; if you've made it before and it has worked by shaking not stirring, try it! If the recipe says something will brown after 12 minutes in the oven and your's hasn't browned yet, leave it until you think its brown enough.

Taste, taste, taste!

Any good chef will tell you to taste your food multiple times as you cook. Stick your spoon in and see if it tastes good. Is your food seasoned well? Can it use more salt or pepper? Would you like it if it were a bit sweeter? Everyone's palate is different, if you think it needs something; Go for it!
