That Autumn Feeling
When the cool air rolls in at night and the days become a little bit shorter my time has come. Fall is here and I am no longer present. My mind begins to wander and my soul leaves my body whilst I stand among the hustle and bustle of daily life. I begin to see myself among an arrangement of hundred year old trees whose sole purpose is to fuel us all with clean air to breathe. At this time the earth sets example for us to shed the weight from the long year passed and decompose those memories into fertilizer or encouragement to lead us into the new year. To even more importantly change our colors as we reflect on those losses, triumphs and lessons. I walk the woods with this intention.
When Autumn shows its colors I begin my pursuit of nourishment for the year. I spend every day focused on the hunt and how I will make the season successful in order to lower our food costs and keep some free range, wild, unaltered meat on the table. Deer hunting is the time for Sean and I to use the skills we've prepared and practiced all year. We keep our shooting accurate, keep the land healthy, and keep the animals calm by not constantly trampling through their home. The autumn season brings me peace as I give back to the land and do my part as a conservationist. To hunt for food also means to control population, conserve the land, and leave those creatures land as peaceful as I found it. This is the most rewarding, nourishing, and humane way to feed ourselves fresh meat.
When I wake on autumn mornings I feel no stress knowing It's my time to get out into nature and do what I love. I go to work with a calm that I don't have every day of the year, as much as I would like to. I guess the confidence that I am able to provide sustenance is calming, as well as the fact that I will be deep in the forest soon. Where you hear no chatter, and no cars, just peace.
I am writing this today not with the intention to persuade anyone to hunt or teach the importance or where food comes from. I am writing to tell you all that Autumn is a time when you wont see or hear much from me much. I use this time to reflect, recoup, and recover while I immerse myself in the peacefulness of my pursuit.
As I constantly leave work running to the car to make the drive away from this city, my thought is only of the trees. I think of the trees surrounded by the crisp morning air, the alarm clock waking me to go out under the trees before the sun comes up and the shooting light begins. I think of sitting high up in the most perfectly shaped tree, above the most perfectly packed trail, over looking the most perfect clearing in the trees to be able to get the most perfect shot. I think of how I feel while I find my personal peace in the trees. I encourage you all to find that autumn feeling and see what brings you bliss.
